What is minimally invasive surgery?
Queensland Veterinary Specialists’ surgeons were among the first veterinary surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery in Australia. In fact, Dr David Burgess performed the first canine laparoscopic ovariectomy in Australia. Be assured, that your pet is receiving the best care from specialist surgeons using advanced technologies including Ligasure, Stryker and Olympus stacks.
Minimally invasive surgery is an innovative kind of surgery that allows surgery to be performed through small incisions or through natural body openings. The types of minimally invasive surgery include laparoscopy (abdominal), arthroscopy (joint) and thoracoscopy (chest). Minimally invasive surgery is sometimes called “key-hole” surgery meaning that the surgery is performed through “key-hole” sized incisions.
Why minimally invasive surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery has the advantage of:
-
smaller incisions and scars
-
reduced pain
-
reduced risk of infection
-
quicker recovery times
