QVS North Lakes marks ten years as the region’s leading specialist and emergency animal hospital

Queensland Veterinary Specialists (QVS) North Lakes is celebrating a decade of growth from a small team with a big goal into a busy hospital the local community relies on around the clock.

Over ten years, QVS North Lakes has provided more than 65,000 emergency consultations. From tick paralysis to life-threatening snake bites, the team has administered over 31 litres of tick antiserum and 281 units of tiger and brown snake antivenom, helping save the lives of pets across the region.

The hospital opened its doors in September 2016, expanding on the success of QVS’s original Stafford clinic. As demand for advanced veterinary services continued to grow across Brisbane’s north side, the team established the new hospital on Flinders Parade, North Lakes, designed by architects Vokes and Peters.

“Over the past decade, QVS North Lakes has become a trusted part of the community, supporting pets, their families and referring veterinarians through some of their most challenging moments.
That trust has been earned by an extraordinary team whose compassion, expertise and dedication have shaped the hospital and the care it provides every day. This milestone belongs to them, and I am incredibly proud of what we have built together.”

Patient records reflect both the dedication of the team and the strong connection it has built with the community. Among the patients cared for were more than 56,000 dogs, 14,000 cats and 1,000 exotic animals, representing much-loved companions and the families behind them.

The team has recorded 12,132 different patient names, with Bella, Charlie, Luna, Molly and Max proving to be Queensland’s most popular pets’ names.

Growing with the community

From a small team in 2016 to a dynamic hospital of 80 today, QVS North Lakes has grown into a leading referral partner for pet owners and referring veterinarians across North Brisbane and Moreton Bay, delivering specialist expertise, advanced diagnostics and emergency care close to home. Over the years, its reputation for specialist and emergency care has seen patients referred from across Queensland, including the Sunshine Coast, Central Queensland and Far North Queensland.

The hospital has built a broad multidisciplinary team including  internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, dentistry, dermatology, physiotherapy, emergency and critical care, and advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT, ultrasound and fluroscsopy, with specialist clinicians, registrars, residents, interns, nurses, students, and support teams providing expert care.

Located in North Lakes, the hospital serves pet owners throughout North Brisbane, Moreton Bay and surrounding regions. Its breadth of specialist expertise and capability as the only full staffed 24-hour emergency have established it as a destination for advanced urgent veterinary care.

The North Lakes milestone comes as the QVS name continues to grow, with QVS Sunshine Coast marking its own first year of specialist and emergency care in June 2026.
