Frequently Asked Questions

Why would my pet need to see the emergency team?
There are many reasons your pet may need to see our emergency team.

Emergencies can happen unexpectedly and when they do, it is important to have access to emergency and specialist care.

Our team is equipped to handle a variety of medical emergencies such as trauma, respiratory distress, metabolic disease, toxicities, obstructions, tick and snake envenomation, and more.

What is the availability of the Pet Emergency team?

Our emergency team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Unlike your primary care veterinarian, Pet Emergency does not operate by appointment but instead on a triage-based system. This means that patients are seen in order of urgency, not in the order of arrival. If your pet is stable on presentation, you will be asked to complete an admission form with your details whilst you wait for the next available veterinarian.

If your pet is critically ill on presentation, we will immediately transfer them to our treatment area to commence emergency care and stabilisation of their condition. If required, your pet will receive immediate assessment and initial stabilisation by our emergency veterinarians.

Due to the unpredictable nature of emergency care, there can be a wait to see our veterinarians at times. Your patience is appreciated whilst we attend to patients with immediate, life-threatening conditions.
