Frequently Asked Questions

Why might my pet need to see a Dental Specialist?
There are many conditions where your pet might need to see the specialist dentistry team at Queensland Veterinary Specialists.

Some common reasons are:
  • Periodontology - Dental Extractions, root planning, advanced periodontal surgery
  • Endodontics - Root canal therapy, surgical root canal therapy, vital pulpotomy
  • Orthodontics - Acrylic inclined plane or bilateral crown height reduction with vital pulpotomy for the management of base narrow canines, orthodontics and brackets
  • Restorative - Management of caries/cavities and enamel hypoplasia
  • Oral Medicine - Management of feline gingivostomatitis and other oral conditions
  • Oral Surgery - Jaw fracture management, oral tumour biopsy and surgery
During your dentistry appointment, your pet will receive a thorough oral and physical examination while awake. In addition, we will review your pet's medical history, previous medical records and current treatment. Based on our evaluations, further diagnostic tests may be recommended. These may include anaesthetised oral examination, dental radiographs, and other advanced diagnostic imaging such as a CT Scan.

We will also discuss our treatment planning options with you during the consultation. The dental procedure will be arranged and carried out on a separate day.
